Obituary of Fred Etcher
Passed away suddenly at University Hospital, with family by his side, on November 25th, 2011. Cherished husband of Mary Jane. Loving father of Darryl, Von (Dena), Karen Yates and Diane Chisholm (Michael). Proud Grandpa of Michelle, Kadi, Savanna, Vanessa (Erin), Amanda, Laura and Carly. Brother of Ruth Petryshyn (Lou) and Ken (Ana). Predeceased by his parents Nellie and Keith; his sisters Shirley Pilkey (Earl) and Muriel; and by his brother Ronald. Fred was a retired industrial engineer with General Motors in Oshawa. He was known for his appreciation of sports, especially his love of hockey. Fred played for the silver medal winning Canadian Olympic Hockey team (1960) and for the Whitby Dunlops “Dunnies” World Cup Champions (1958). He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and he will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he has touched. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, where the funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Thornton Cemetery, Oshawa, on Thursday, December 1st, 2011 at 12 Noon.
