Obituary of Jimmy C. Russell

Jimmy C. Russell, 83, born to Will and Willie (James) Russell on April 9, 1931, in Portales, New Mexico, was one of 11 children. On Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, he lost his battle with Alzheimer’s disease.Jimmy attended Chowchilla High School in Chowchilla, California, and was president of the Future Farmers of America during his junior and senior years. His love for animals and especially horses was never-ending. Jimmy spent two and a half years serving his country in the U.S. Army.Jimmy worked as a mechanic/operator for Shell Oil Company for 30 years and retired in 1984 in Monroe, where he and wife Betty have lived for the past 30 years on their 40-acre farm.Jimmy is survived by his wife, Betty; and his four children, Dora Cundiff of Tollhouse, California, J.C. Russell of Turner, Judy Harwood of Prosser, Washington, and Cindy Dagesse of Monroe. Jimmy has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Jimmy was active in his community and was a member of various organizations, including the South Benton Lions Club and the Monroe Enhancement Committee. Jimmy and Betty were recognized for outstanding service to their community by volunteering on various projects to improve and enhance the Monroe community and surrounding areas.Jimmy was selfless in his love for his family, and a friend to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.Visitation is set for 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home, 480 W. Seventh Ave. in Junction City. A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Alpine Cemetery, 25600 Cemetery Road (located in Alpine), Monroe. A meal will be provided directly after the service at the Monroe Church of Christ.Arrangements were entrusted to Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home.
