Obituary of Harry Van Horik

Peacefully at his home in Hyde Park on Monday Aug 29th, 2011, Harry Van Horik at the age of 83. Loving husband and best friend of Mary for over 58 years. Dearly loved and caring father of Remi Van Horik and his wife Rhoda, JoAnne Teske and her husband Steve, Peter Van Horik and his wife Janice, and Henry Van Horik and his partner Andrea. He was the beloved Opa to 11 grandchildren, Karl, Antoinette, Michael, Mathew , Christopher, Rebecca, Rachel, Kevin, Justin, Jake and Olivia who will miss his warm sense of humour and love. Harry will also be dearly missed by many friends and a large extended family in the Netherlands. Harry was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1952. He was a bricklayer by trade but changed careers in 1969 when he established Van Horik’s Greenhouses and Garden Centre in Hyde Park. Active in the community, he and his wife Mary led a very busy social life with friends and family. Visitation will take place Sunday Sept 4th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the funeral will be held on Monday Sept 5th, 2011 at 11 am, followed by a luncheon reception.
