Obituary of Gladys GIbson

Gladys Gibson was born on September 4, 1917 in Enumclaw, Washington to Peter and Bertha Halkjar. She married Howard Gibson on September 4, 1935, a vocational agriculture school teacher with the Buckley School system.He invited her aunt to go for a ride in his new car and Gladys told him she would not say no if he asked her and that was the beginning of a wonderful life together.Their early married life was back to OSU for Howard to finish his Master's Degree, then to California, Idaho and Oregon with the Soil Conservation Service and then in August 1941 to Junction City to buy a farm. The enterprise has grown from the original farm to include Lochmead Farms, Lochmead Dairy, Dari-Mart Stores, Gibson and Gibson and Coconut Bliss. Gladys was the President of Dari-Mart stores which will be 49 years old this October.Her immediate family includes daughter Pat Straube (Gary) and sons Jock Gibson (Liz), Michael Gibson (Michelle) and Buzz Gibson (Janet). Her husband Howard and their daughter Judy preceded her in death. Her birthday on September 4 was celebrated with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoying an ice cream social with "chocolate" and a wee bit of bubbly for herself. Gladys was affectionately known as Mim or Nana by her family.She was a true lady, a great mother and grandmother and a passionate employer and business woman. Her children's memories include many stories of the two working many long hard hours to bring the business to the success it is today.Gladys's passion was her family, bridge, her yard with hundreds of rhodys and oil painting. Over her lifetime she was a member of many community organizations and received the Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement award in 2005. This award was presented for her more than 30 years of outstanding volunteer services to her community. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Education Together towards the Howard and Gladys Gibson Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 523, Junction City, OR 97448. A celebration of life will be held October 19 at Shadow Hills Country Club 3:00 – 6:00 pm.On Wednesday, September 24 there was the most spectacular sunset that was witnessed by her family and her friends.
