Obituary of Donna Jean Whitton
WHITTON, Donna Jean (Rasmussen) – Born in London, ON, March 19, 1933. Passed away May 29, 2011 at University Hospital with family by her side. Predeceased by her parents Hans and Gladys Rasmussen, her brother Eric and her nephew Greg. Donna is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wells, and her beloved children Jim, John (Tina), Bob (Donna), Sharon Lea (Tom), and Dave (Brenda). Also survived by her grandson Adam, her sister Janet Rasmussen, her niece Michelle and her nephew Derek. Donna lived in London all her life, graduating from South Collegiate and the Victoria Hospital School of Nursing. After nursing for a short while she retired to raise a family…and what a great job she did…a loving, compassionate, caring mother. After the kids were on their own she worked at Sandy’s Flowers for a number of years. Starting in 1996 she and Wells enjoyed several retirement years together until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She dealt with the disease with her usual quiet courage, dignity and grace. We would like to offer special thanks to her devoted doctor, Dr. Cathy Peckan, to the Alzheimer Outreach Services at McCormick Home, to Cheshire’s Supports for Daily Living program and to the doctors and nurses at University Hospital for their help and their loving care for Donna. It was much appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Saturday, June 4th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Outreach Services at McCormick Home or to the Alzheimer Society-Research would be appreciated. Online condolences accepted at www.westviewfuneralchapel.com
