Obituary of Frieda E. Opp

A memorial service will be held graveside at 1:00pm Saturday, November 8, at Springfield Memorial Gardens for Frieda Elizabeth Opp of Eugene, who died October 3rd, 2014, of age-related causes. She was 81. Frieda was born August 3, 1933 in Savannah, Georgia, to DeWitt and Rebecca Murray. She earned her Registered Nursing degree in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1954. She was an adventurous girl and upon graduation she found nursing work in Sitka, Alaska where she met and fell in love with Fred W. Opp, a Coast Guard seaman. They were married on September 15, 1956, in Portland, Oregon and they raised a family of four children, living in Yokohama, Japan, Colorado, and California, as well as Portland. Frieda was a loving mother who worked many years in hospitals and clinics, before finally retiring from the US Forest Service in Portland as an Industrial Health Nurse in 1994. She then spent her retirement years in Redmond, Oregon, with her husband, Fred, enjoying many outdoor activities until 2010. She finished the last four years of her life in Eugene, Oregon, near her daughters. Frieda was an avid volunteer and enjoyed quilting and gardening as hobbies. Her survivors include three daughters, Leslie Opp-Beckman of Eugene, Rebecca Opp of Portland, and Patricia Daniels of Lake Oswego; and her son, Fred Opp Jr. of Camano Island, Washington, as well as ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
