Obituary of Matthew Thomas Andrew MacKinlay

Surrounded by his loving family, Matthew Thomas Andrew MacKinlay passed away peacefully in his mother’s arms on Sunday, July 12th, 2020 at the Children’s Hospital - London Health Sciences Centre. He was born on July 7th, 2020 at 10:59 a.m., weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces, was 21 inches long, and fought hard until his passing. Matthew experienced holding hands with his Mommy and Daddy, hugs and kisses from his family, listening as his Mommy and Daddy sang him songs, and being told “I love you” an uncountable amount of times. Matthew suffered from a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, a rare condition that does not allow lungs to develop properly in utero. He made his parents very proud with his strength and courage. Matthew leaves behind his loving parents, Duncan and Jennifer MacKinlay (Garbett); grandparents, Thomas and Becky MacKinlay, Andrew and Kimberly Garbett; nephew of Laura and Chad Mahovlich, Jaime Garbett; cousin of Ana and Klara Mahovlich. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Soume Bhattacharya, Nurse Kim, and the rest of the staff of LHSC - NICU for their compassion and care. A private Celebration of Life will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. The family will honour Matthew’s life by raising awareness for infants born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honoured to have you support the Children’s Health Foundation - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as they were our family during Matthew’s short time on this earth.
