Allison was a wonderful student at Laurier and a dynamic leader in the classroom. Her compassion for others, especially the vulnerable, was matched only by her passion for societal justice and fairness. She lived her convictions and dedicated her life to others – both to her family and to the communities she served. It was my privilege to take a class of students to the House of Friendship every year to hear Allison share the story of her own journey. And we were all inspired by her. We too are grateful recipients of Allison’s light; it will keep burning brightly.

As a leader, Allison hired, coached, mentored and developed countless individuals who continue to carry forward her legacy of passion and compassion for folks on the margins of society. With an ever ready ear and a truly genuine spirit Allison engaged with the world around her. In my time working with her in various projects she was a true joy to be in the presence of and I was lucky to always have her close by to have random chats about work, the state of society and the world at large as well as personal things. She did this while being my supervisor at the HOF Men's Shelter and even when she wasn't my supervisor but had an office in the building I worked out of at Supportive Housing. Many of the tenants here at Supportive Housing have been sharing stories about her and the kids which they saw from time to time at various events and while she worked for Supportive Housing as well. Many tears have been shed with the news, and much love has been expressed for the kids and for Greg from all. Her light shines in many of our hearts. Blessings to the family. You are in our prayers and thoughts!

Allison was a force. I met her shortly after I started serving at House of Friendship and her energy was contagious. She only ever brought her A game - fully engaged, interested, passionate, questioning and always ready to take on a challenge head on. She was just so bright and always on and so very, very genuine. There is a picture I saw just a couple of days ago, that fully embodies my experience of Allison every day - leaning in, listening, small furrow of concentration on her brow, mind churning with thoughts and the slight smile of possibility. It is so her and how I will carry her in my memory. We have lost a shining star and a light at HOF and in this community. I felt like I was really just getting to know Allison and I am so sad that time is cut short. To Greg, William, Maxwell and Madison, and all of Allison's extended family and friends. I am so very sorry for your loss. She made such an impact here that her loss will be felt hard by so many. You are all in my prayers.

Allison gave me my start in this field. I am forever grateful for her willingness to take a chance on me for a street outreach position. Her ability to recognize the potential of people and support them meeting that potential is unparalleled. I’ve yet to experience a manager who could ensure her staff felt heard individually and brought together collectively in a way Allison was able to do— and as a manager of a 24 hr Shelter, that is no easy task. Allison, embodied the authentic values of this work that everyone should aim to mirror and carry forward. She always kept our community members at the centre of her work and was not afraid to disrupt the status quo. Allison, thank you for offering me an opportunity that has changed my life and thank you for facilitating a space that encouraged critical thinking and action for all your staff members. You will be dearly missed. To Allison’s family, my deepest condolences. So sorry for your loss.

Allison was an amazing young woman. We only have fond memories of her and what an amazing babysitter she was to our four children. Allison was always positive and our children loved it when she came to babysit as she would come with a bag of games, toys and books. I am sure she was an amazing mother and wife as well. As I sit here today and remember Allison, we can still see an adorable, very funny, very happy little girl tearing up the soccer field. Even though it has been many years our memories of her smile and laughter are as clear as a bell. We moved away from London 23 years ago. Ali gave our daughter Dani a friendship candle. There were 4 little stones inside that we still have today. As we revisited the meanings of these gems we thought; “well of course, this describes Allisonâ€! .the crystal heart: hold it up to the light and see a beautiful rainbow of life experiences, full of joy, enthusiasm, confidence and love. The amethyst: a symbol of true wisdom, knowledge and understanding. The jade: speaks of clarity, modesty, courage, justice and wisdom. The rose quartz: to remind us that any wounds our hearts have accumulated can be healed. Allison was way beyond her years even at 11 years old! She was building her house of friendship a very long time ago. Her life story is incredible. To Greg, William, Maxwell and Madison, Diane, Wayne, Andrea and Brian, and all of Allison’s loved family, we are so sorry and saddened to hear of Allison’s passing. Greg, Wayne, Dianne, Andrea, Brian and extended family - we were so very sorry to hear about Allison’s illness and passing. Though our memories of her are from her friendship with our daughter Kate during high school, we can easily see her face, and I can even hear her cheerful voice. She was very memorable, even back then. As many have said, she was truly such a bright light. She always struck me as being full of joy and possibility; unfailingly kind, selfless and thoughtful, qualities mirrored in her parents and siblings. To read of all of her achievements from her short life is honestly astounding - such an accomplished young woman she was, and it sounds like a wonderful mother to boot. Right now, I’m sure nothing makes her death bearable, but I hope there is some small comfort in knowing how many people she touched and what a giving and nurturing young woman she was. Our thoughts and prayers are truly with you, and we look forward to supporting Dunnwithcancer.com.

Allison interviewed me in 2014 at a point in life where I decided to pursue a role which would fully fit my passion of helping people. Allison asked me all the right questions to help her gain a grasp of what motivated me, what I was passionate about, and why I was there. Allison's style was very feedback-based, which I always admired about her. Allison didn't tell; she listened, and in asking and listening she was able to uncover the root/core and enable more progress than would've been possible if she would have only told. For being so young, she was wise, respectful, mature, and approachable. She entrusted her staff, and through this, she built a culture of confidence and empowerment for staff and for the people we served. Allison was truly a noble person and I will continue to reflect fondly on her many qualities that seemed to come so naturally to her, of which many of us could only strive to embrace. Thank you Allison for showing such an open heart, open ears, and open mindedness. I am sad to hear you won't be here to continue making progress in our world, but your legacy will live on, as you have left your footprint.
