John was a man after God’s own heart – who brought joy to ours. John walked humbly, worshiped joyfully, shared generously. He was a man who came alongside. He savoured each day. It was a gift to hear him sing, standing beside him and Carol at church, or at a Valleyview Male Chorus concert. John had a wonderful wry sense of humour and to see his face light up from eyes to smile was a blessing. John was steadfast. We miss him. We praise God for the blessing of his life, shared.

Our late beloved brother and coworker in God’s Kingdom, John Hiebert was indeed a role model and example in exemplifying the love of our Saviour Jesus Christ in words and deeds. We will definitely missed his presence and work here with us at NorthWind Family Ministries. As I looked around NorthWind’ property at Eagle’s Cove, I can see his handy work in all that God has done through him, together with his late brother Henry(Hank) & his late sister in law, plus many others who have been here to help established Eagle’s Cove property and the office building in the city. We can only thank the Lord Jesus for His servant through John. Almost from the beginning the Hieberts were here helping the work and ministries through SCA Eagle’s Cove and now NorthWind Family Ministries. They helped redirect the roads, cleared bushes for new buildings, build big sheds for vehicles and machine storage, putting sidings on buildings , fixing plumbing works, myriads of carpentry works and maintenance, the “Mumjias†( the women or Mrs) helping with some nutritious Mennonite meals, and other tasks assigned to them or giving in a helping hands wherever needed. In addition they have helped as well through their sacrificial financial contributions as well as encouraging other family members for help in the work and ministries in Thunder Bay and surrounding areas. The presence of the Hieberts in our lives have been a great blessings and encouragement to all of us here in Thunder Bay. Although the Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay may not fully known the impact of such service and sacrifice from the late John Hiebert, but our Lord is aware of it and it is written in His book of all that His servant has done while here on his earthly life. Awaiting him in heaven is the reward of his efforts and his investment in the expansion of God’s Kingdom here on earth, as many have been blessed through the work and ministries the late John Hiebert have done in Thunder Bay. To Carol and the family, our gratitude for your part in helping your late husband, late Father, late Grandfather, late uncle, late brother in law in doing what he loves and enjoy, helping to make a difference in the lives of others, bringing them to the Kingdom of God. Our prayers are with you all as we grieved the physical passing away of God’s servant. He will always be remembered at Eagle’s Cove and NorthWind Family Ministries. For those of us who have known the late John Hiebert as well as other servants of God like Ravi Zacharias (passed away almost same time), may we continue faithfully the legacy they have left behind, as was passed down to us from the mountain prior to the Lord’s ascension as mentioned on Mathew 28:18-21. May God’s blessings and hope be the Hieberts family and all of us as we follow our Saviour.

Mr. Hiebert was my biology and gym teacher at Eden High School back in the late 1980's and he may not have realized it but he was a man I looked up to as a mentor and man of God. He was very generous with his time and concerned about every student, mentally, physically and spiritually and it showed every day. After I graduated in 1987 we kept in touch through letters and visits and he even accepted an invitation to go duck hunting with myself and my brother in Parry Sound. It was a time I will not forget. Throughout my University years we kept in touch with letters back and forth as he encouraged me in my walk with God and Christian faith. He was a spiritual father to me and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I look forward to seeing him once again in Christ's Kingdom. God bless you Carol, Patty, Doug and David during this difficult time. Sincerely, Marcus.
