Lavinia "Venie" Potter

Obituary of Lavinia "Venie" Potter

On Sunday, April 26, 2020, Lavinia “Venie” Potter passed suddenly, yet peacefully of heart failure, in her 97th year, in London, Ontario. Venie was born and raised in Toronto. Loving sister to Thelma and Ken, she was the eldest and the sole survivor. She met her late husband William “Bill” (2010), when he was training at the air force base in Downsview, prior to his deployment overseas. They married in Toronto and settled in London. Venie is survived by her loving children, Rick (Joan), Linda, Jim (Nancy), Judy (Walter) and Nancy (Eugen). Beloved grandchildren Jeff, Jennifer, Jessica (Jay), Andrew, Robyn and Ravyn were a special part of her life, as well as two great-grandchildren, Kai and Bryn. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Irene. Venie was very active in her church, in the Empress United UCW, as social convener, and later, in Colborne Street United Church. She was active in the Parent Teacher Association during the years her children were in school. She loved to travel, including driving across Canada and up to Alaska. She took trips to England, Florida, Hawaii and San Francisco. Venie loved to meet people and carry on conversations with everyone she met. Venie was everyone’s “Mom”, opening her house to all and making sure there was enough food and tea for her guests. She loved to cook and preserve, and enjoyed her garden of raspberries, peaches, roses and lilies when in season. Venie was adopted by many stray pets over the years, and treasured all of them. A Celebration of Venie’s Life will be held in London at a later date when travel is allowed. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Venie are asked to consider Animalert https://www.animalert.ca/ or the Farley Foundation https://www.farleyfoundation.org/. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, visitation is by invitation only. Please reach out to the family from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 for an invite to the visitation. Please note: the funeral home can ONLY admit a maximum of 10 people at a time as per the directive of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, https://thebao.ca/registrars-directive/. Love doesn’t end with dying or leave with the last breath. For Someone you’ve loved deeply, love doesn’t end with death. John Addey
