Obituary of James 'Jim' Timothy Lapthorne
January 5, 1949 – April 19, 2020
Peacefully and surrounded by love, after a brief battle with cancer, James Timothy Lapthorne passed away in his 72nd year. Survived by his children Danielle and Jim, and their mother Ann Marie Fitz-Gerald. Beloved brother of David and Mary Jane Lapthorne, of London, and Brian and Carolyn Lapthorne, of Calgary. Special Uncle Jim to many nieces and nephews. Jim was a longtime employee of 3M Canada and made many friends during his time there, as well as through his involvement with the CAW Local 27. In his retirement, he loved to spend time with his kids on the golf course, or just enjoying a good ‘burg. Always one for a good laugh, an old story or a whistle and a song, he didn’t want you to be sad, so: “keep your chin up and keep your powder dry!” Jim wished to extend his deepest thanks to his sister and brother-in-law, Marrie and David Fullerton, for all their support over the years. Thank you to Queens Village for Seniors, Jim’s home for the past 15 years, where the staff and residents became not only dear friends but family. Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with information printed in the London Free Press. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice, who took incredible care of Jim in his final days.
