Obituary of Dwight Fairbanks

Dwight Wesley Fairbanks passed away at Cascade Manor in Eugene on June 3, 2014 of age-related causes. He was 93.Dwight was born on July 8, 1920 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Berthier W. Fairbanks and Anne Midas Fairbanks. He served in the US Army during World War II and received a purple heart. He married Ruth J. Oksendahl on June 10, 1947.He received his BS in 1943 from Colorado State University; his MS in 1956 from Michigan State University; and his PhD in 1968 from the University of Oregon. He worked for the Extension Service at Washington State University; as a visual instruction specialist at Oregon State University; in various capacities for the Division of Continuing Education, Oregon State System of Higher Education; and later as an educational consultant.Dwight will best be remembered for his gentleness, generosity of spirit, scholarship, wry humor, and bright smile. He was an accomplished writer, published author and artist. He was an active member of United Lutheran Church in Eugene.Survivors include a daughter, Joan Fairbanks of Seattle; a son, Tom Fairbanks (Beth West) of Los Alamos, New Mexico; grandsons Kellen Dammann of San Francisco, California and Christopher Fairbanks of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister, Aline Fairbanks of Greeley, Colorado; son-in-law Bruce Dammann of San Diego, California; and an extended family in the United States, Norway and France. He is predeceased by his wife Ruth and daughter Janet Fairbanks Dammann.A religious inurnment ceremony and military honors ceremony will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Park on November 1, 2014 at 9:30 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life with Reception and Lucheon at Cascade Manor, 11:30 to 1:30, 65 West 30th, Eugene, OR.Memorial contributions can be made to the Cascade Manor Foundation or a charitable organization of your choice.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
