Livio and I worked together in the Medical Biophysics Department when I became its Chair. I knew him well before then, dating back to 1988 while I worked at the London Regional Cancer Centre with Biophysics teaching assignments at Western. I remember Livio for his technical skills but most of all for his desire to be helpful to our students and faculty, some beyond our Department. His smile was warm and welcoming to all who entered his "electronics shop". We often discussed gadgets and electronics, including some custom modifications he made to my Fender guitar amplifier (out of hours of course !?). Please accept my expression of sincerest condolences to the entire family. Livio was simply a wonderful person and I will remember him.

We have so mnay fond memories of Livio dating back to when we first arrived in London in 1979. Livio was always there to help, whether it was designing and building new equipment for a research project, fixing a computer, tiling a bathroom or introducing us to local sources of Italian cheese. He had so many skills and was so willing to share his time and expertise with all of us. As I have contacted former students and friends about his passing, they have replied with numerous stories of how he touched their lives. Livio was a very special person and we will remember him, his smile and his warmth. Our deepest condolences to the family.

Livio, was our quiet Cousin, but words didn't matter. His beautiful smile, kind, considerate and caring manner was always felt. Unfortunately, we were unable to spend much time together, as distance was always an issue. The short time we were together, was always fun filled and enjoyable. Josephine remembers playing cowboy and indians with Livio. When the Giacomellis came to live in London in the 70's, for a short while, we spent plenty of time with Livio and his family. The children played together and we often spoke of time gone by when we all arrived from Arba. Livio was a good cook, he loved cooking delicious Italian food. His girls meant the world to him. He made sure his girls were always happy and had all they needed to have a good life. He was an exceptional father, and I believe grandfather too! We feel he is at peace now. He was very blessed by having Karen, Amy, Christina, and Marci in his life. We send you and all your families our deepest and sincere condolences. love, Grace and Josephine and families....

So sorry to hear about Livio’s passing. I first met Livio while doing graduate studies in Biophysics at Western in the early 1970’s. Those were wonderful years with great friendships and camaraderie among the graduate students, a group which always included Livio. I have many fond memories of potlucks and group weekends at a cottage, often with Livio’s homemade pizza being the culinary highlight (earning him the moniker “Chef Boyardeeâ€). Livio was a such a warm, kind and good-natured man. He patiently put up with ongoing student hijinks and just smiled tolerantly when confronted with our pranks. In terms of our research projects, Livio was extremely helpful and inventive, skillfully helping us navigate and overcome frequent technical challenges and difficulties. Livio exemplified the exceptional group of people who helped make Biophysics a vibrant and engaging environment to learn science and to perform innovative research. Livio is fondly remembered by my wife Esther, myself, and by the many other graduate students who had the pleasure to work with him at Western.
