Obituary of George Boehnke
George Thorpe Boehnke passed away peacefully on October 29, 2014 surrounded by family after a short illness.George was born in Eugene in 1931 to Edwin and Florence (Thorpe) Boehnke, and graduated from Eugene High School and the University of Oregon with a degree in Business. He married Charlene “Chari” Shorack in 1954, spent time in the Army Counter-Intelligence Corps in Baltimore and Chicago. George then returned to Eugene where he worked with his father at Boehnke Printing Company, which he later purchased and owned for 32 years.George was dedicated to family, to Eugene, to Oregon, and to public service. He enjoyed politics, the outdoors, and all manner of Oregon athletics. He was forever positive and remarkably generous. George was an active member of the Eugene Downtown Association, Downtown Rotary Club, Active 20-30 Club, and United Methodist Church, and an active volunteer for the Lane Memorial Blood Bank, United Way, American Red Cross, Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America, and the Republican Party.George was preceded in death by his ex-wife and good friend Chari, brother Henry, and son Richard. He is survived by son Michael of Ann Arbor, Michigan, daughter Barb Aalund of Walnut, California, and grandchildren David, Kevin, and Richard Boehnke; and Katie, Danny, and Gary Aalund.George’s family will host a memorial service and reception to celebrate George’s life on Saturday November 8 at 3:00 pm at the chapel at Good Samaritan Eugene Village, 3500 Hilyard Street. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Eugene Mission (www.eugenemission.org).
