M. Joyce Matheus age 87 of Eugene, Oregon passed away of natural age related causes on November 22, 2014. She lived 50 years of her life in Eugene.She was born in Huntington Park, California on June 20, 1927 to Jack and Mabel (Goyen) Kelley.She graduated high school in Santa Rosa, California in 1945 and married Donald Matheus on September 14, 1946 in Grants Pass, Oregon. She worked for a short time in the office at Edison Electric Company.Joyce was a “hands on” stay at home mother for most of her married life and had three children with Don. Two daughters, Julie Ann Palmer and her husband Gary of Winchester Bay, OR and Jill Elaine Johnson and her husband Jeff of Eugene, OR. Two sons, Kenneth Warren Matheus of Springfield, OR.and Steven Paul Matheus, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also, survived by two sister’s, Colleen Donatt and her husband Norm of Mill Creek, WA and Sue DeCloedt and her husband George of Beaverton, Or and a brother Norman Kelley of Portland, OR.Her hobbies and interests included flowers and gardening, cooking, bible studies and church functions, fellowship and traveling with her friends and family. She was an incredible caregiver with a loving touch and her own special way of taking care of you.She was a very warm, loving, caring and compassionate woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Everyone who knew her came to quickly realize that she was very special,beautiful and kind inside with a loving, giving heart. That was the true essence and gift of her life. She honored God and her family with her life.She was preceded in death by her husband Don and her son, Steven Paul Matheus and a brother, Donald Kelley.A Celebration of life will be held on December 1, 2014 at 10:30 at the First Baptist Church, 3550 Fox Meadow Road, Eugene, OR 97408. A visitation will follow services and she will be placed to rest at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Eugene, OR.Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Camp Harlow C/O First Baptist Church.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
