Sandi, Alex, Billie, Rachelle and Dan......I have had the pleasure of knowing some of your family for 35 years....and I have always realized what a special and brilliant man I met in John Carroll. He loved his family and he was proud of all of you. Especially those that made him smile like you did. You brought him joy and gave him his reason for being.....husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, educator, mentor, advisor, and everything else that made him outstanding.

Dr. Carroll holds a very special spot in my life. He was an amazing mentor to me at Western during my undergrad and Master degrees. Many thanks go to him for experiences in my past which have lead to the opportunities I have now. May your good memories comfort you. with sincere sympathy lynda

Philip M McLellan posted a condolence
I have been away this winter and just learned of Dr. Carroll's passing. I was a graduate student under John's supervision in 1968-70. I had returned to Western after a tour of duty in the RCAF with a young family and was very apprehensive about my decision to pursue an MSc. in the newly emerging field of computer science. Dr. Carroll took me under his wing and with great enthusiasm for the subject matter and understanding for my situation, inspired my interest and gave me the necessary confidence to succeed. His instruction and guidance played a major part in my eventual career path. I'm sure there are many others whose lives were influenced similiarly by John. My heartfelt sympathies to Mrs.Carroll and family. Phil McLellan
