Obituary of Maralyn Joan Atkins
Maralyn was born in Escanaba, Michigan and raised in Ashland, Wisconsin. She moved to Chicago to train as a radiology technician and there she met her husband, George Atkins. After marriage they moved to Colorado, where George used his GI Bill for college and started a family. A few years later they moved to be near family in California where they settled in Canoga Park. As their family expanded they moved to Newbury Park, CA and remained there until George passed away in 1979. Maralyn moved to Eugene in 1981 where she expanded her love of sewing into quilting. She was a member of a quilting group which brought her close friends and good times. She enjoyed making quilts for her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was always looking for new ideas and was delighted when she would find new patterns or fabric. Maralyn was preceded in death by her husband, George, her sister, Patricia Gaut, her daughter, Debra Graham, and her grandsons, Marcus Graham and Matthew Whitmer and son-in-law, David Russell. She is survived by her sister Barbara Odegaard, daughters, Dianne (Richard) Hoffman, Dayna (Mark) Whitmer, and Dale (Al Cronin) Russell, and sons, Keith Atkins and Kevin (Therese) Atkins. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren in addition to several nieces and nephews. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday December 6, 2014 at 11:00 at WestLawn Funeral Home, Eugene, OR. Internment will immediately follow the service.
