Obituary of Norman Woods

WOODS, Norman - Peacefully on February 6th, 2011 after a lengthy illness, Norman Cornelius (Con) Woods of London, in his 86th year. Devoted husband for 57 years to Ruth, loving father to daughter Gayle (partner Brian Edwards) of Wasaga Beach, sons Gordon, of London, Joel, of Vancouver and Norman, of Prince George. Born October 22, 1925 in Verdun Quebec, he is survived by sisters Helen of Daytona Beach, Norma and Dorothy of Montreal. In 1944 Norm joined the navy and sailed on the frigate Carlplace escorting convoys across the Atlantic. In 1950 he joined the 2RCR and fought in Korea. In 1953 he did a year and a half tour in Germany and again did a year in Egypt with the UN Peace Keeping Force in 1964-65. After retiring from the military Norm managed the clubhouse at Thames Valley Golf Club from 1973 until his retirement in 1990. He leaves behind several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends here and abroad. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North where a funeral service combined with a legion service under the auspices of Byron Springbank Branch No. 533 and a Korea Veteran Association Service under the auspices of Unit No. 4 will be conducted on Thursday, February 10th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Norm are asked to consider the Salvation Army.
