Obituary of Sherrie Hayter

Sherrie Hayter, 71, of Pleasant Hill OR, passed away peacefully in her home on December 23. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Trent Church in Pleasant Hill on Sat., January 3, 2015 at 2:00pm. Born on July 2, 1942 in Eugene, OR to George and Shirley Roberts, Sherrie attended Yoncalla and Canyonville High Schools, graduating from Canyonville, then proceeded to earn her Cosmetology degree and work as a hairdresser. She married Larry Hayter on September 1, 1963. After moving to Pleasant Hill in 1975 with her family, she spent two days a week for the next 30 years at Pleasant Hill Style Salon as a hair stylist. She enjoyed being a hairdresser so much, it was not a job to her, rather, it was spending time with her friends. Sherrie's best self-accomplishment was her family. She loved being a mom and grandma, and creating a home for her family. She loved gardening and preserving her garden's produce for a healthy lifestyle. She was also a highly talented seamstress, artist, quilter, baker and cook - even winning 1st place in a Chili Cook-Off contest. Loving any project outdoors, she completed several beautiful brick and rock patios and walkways in her gardens and around the house. Always active, she enjoyed running - participating in 4 marathons in San Francisco with her daughters, and various local races, and participating in sports and activities. She enjoyed watching her four children play sports through elementary, High School, and College, and also watching her grandchildren participate in sports as well. While attending a 4th of July celebration in LaPine OR, she participated and won 1st place in the Horseshoe pitching contest, and 1st place in Saw-bucking contest. With a consummate love for being outside, Sherrie also enjoyed camping in Eastern and Central Oregon with her family and traveling. Destinations and adventures she particularly enjoyed were trips to Hawaii, Paradise Island Bahamas, taking an Alaskan Cruise, a 5 day rafting trip down the Salmon River, and her most fun and memorable was an entire family trip to Disneyland that Larry treated the kids and grandkids to upon his retirement from The Register-Guard. Sherrie was preceded in death by her brother, Fred and father, George. She is survived by her husband Larry and 4 children - Kamala Putnam, Kary Heller, Jason Hayter and Kalen Hayter, and 8 grandchildren - Landon, Jarrett, Braedon and Trey Putnam, Jacob and Gabrielle Heller, Rhyland and Natalee Hayter, and her mother, Shirley Roberts. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Sacred Heart Hospital Home Care and PeaceHealth Hospice Care nurses and aides for their genuine compassion, support, and care for her.
