Obituary of Frederick Webking
Fred was born at Northwestern Hospital in Brainerd, Minnesota to William and Mabel Webking. He attended public schools in Brainerd and graduated as Salutatorian in 1936. He then attended Brainerd Junior College and transferred to the University of Minnesota, where he received a degree in chemical engineering in 1942. He passed away in Eugene, Oregon where he resided for the last 62 years.He began his career as chief water inspector for the Northern Pacific Railroad and was stationed in Glendive, Montana where he met his future wife, Phyllis. Upon the demise of steam locomotives in the early fifties, he accepted a position with the Flox Company in Portland Oregon, later combined with NALCO, where he was responsible for NALCO’s water treatment analysis and support services for customers in the forest products, oil & gas and pineapple plantation industries along with towns and municipalities throughout the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii.Mechanically gifted, Fred was able to maintain and fix anything including Indian and Harley Davidson motorcycles in the 1940’s, cars of all vintages and later airplanes, as he became an accomplished private pilot. Flying was his passion with many memorable journeys throughout North America and Australia. He was a member of the Columbia Aviation Association of Aurora, Oregon.Fred was a Life Member of the Shriners of North America and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J. U.S.A.Fred and Phyllis raised two children; Rick Webking (Sun Valley, ID) and Debbie Rossman (Woodinville, WA). Phyllis died in 1971 before grandchildren Andrew (Las Vegas) and Meghan (Denver) Webking, Leslie Rossman Bernhardt and Allison Rossman (both of Seattle), were born. Fred has one great-grandchild, Owen Bernhardt.Fred married Yvonne Crossley in 1972 and they lived happily together until Yvonne’s passing in 2014.In addition to Fred’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchild mentioned above, his brother Jerry of Eugene, Oregon and cousin Alvin Buss of Minneapolis survive Fred.Private services will be held at a later date.
