Obituary of Frederick Irvine Nugent

Nugent, Frederick Irvine - Peacefully at University Hospital, Fred passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011, in his 90th year. Cherished husband of the late Eleanor (2004). Beloved father of Rick (Jan), Ken (Susan) and Gordon Nugent and proud grandfather of Jaime, David, Scott, Graham and Shaun. Dear brother-in-law of Maureen Nugent, Verna and her husband Dr. Roy Howarth, Helen and Joyce Forster. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and many friends. Fred joined the RCAF in 1942 and became a flight instructor. He re-enlisted at the outbreak of the Korean War, and was a proud member of the 419 Fighter Squadron flying the CF- 100 fighter jet. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he joined Tecumseh Products of Canada retiring as the Company Treasurer. A long-time lover of the game of golf, Fred was a member of the Highland Golf and Country Club for over 40 years, where he excelled at the game shooting his age for the first time when he was 75. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside Retirement (Chartwell), especially Marlene, Catharine and Sonja for their ongoing support and care. We also wish to thank Cheryl and Kathryn at University Hospital – Palliative Care for their support, compassion and understanding. A memorial service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 1:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Dr. John Howarth officiating. Private interment at Erindale Union Cemetery will take place at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Fred are asked to consider the London Health Sciences Foundation- Cancer Centre or the Alzheimer Society of London & Middlesex.
