Obituary of Kenneth Embery
Ken Embery, loving husband and father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, author, poet, and avid Oregon Duck fan died peacefully following complications from heart surgery. Ken is survived by his three children: Bridget Livesay, with her husband, Brent, and their son, Desmond, of Portland; Austin Embery, of Eugene; and Elyce Embery, of Eugene. Ken is also survived by his mother Dorothy and her companion Dick Joneli of Sedro Woolley, WA and three brothers: Steve (Sandy) of Kent, WA; Brian (Sue) of Auburn, WA; James (Francesca); and brother-in-law Howard Anderson. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Ken was a 1967 graduate of Auburn Senior High School, and was the ASB president of his graduating class. Ken was a three-sport standout in football, wrestling, and baseball for the Trojans. Following his graduation he was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Ken received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Washington and did doctoral work at the University of Oregon. Ken was passionate about writing and was a published author and poet. He loved his wife and children, Little Beach Maui, Mount Pisgah, Oregon Duck football, movies, books, conversation, and was an avid hiker/biker/swimmer. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Julie Dement Embery, the love of his life. He was also preceded in death by his father Kenneth Albert Embery, and sister Bonnie Anderson. A celebration of life will be held January 18 at 2 pm at 226 Main Street in Springfield, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Embery Memorial Fund at the Oregon Community Credit Union.
