Obituary of Sandra Miller
Sandra J. Miller of Eugene, Oregon, passed away on January 13, 2015 at the age of 77 from lung cancer. She was born on October 24, 1937, in Bend, Oregon, to Earl and Helen (Mersereau) Hankins. Sandra graduated high school from Mount Angel Academy in 1955. Sandra joined the Women’s Army Corps in 1956 where she was awarded Outstanding Trainee at Ft. McClennan in Alabama, as voted by her peers. She attended clerical training while at McClennan. Sandra was stationed at Ft. Monroe, Virginia, with the Continental Army Command.Sandra met her husband Robert Guy Miller at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. They were married on August 3, 1957. Upon her husband’s leaving the USAF, they moved to Oneonta, New York, where they lived for one year. They then moved to Binghamton, New York. They later divorced.In 1962 Sandra had a brain operation in which she was given a 30% chance to live. This experience shaped her attitude about life and made her appreciate the good things in it. In 1964, she moved back to Oregon and worked for Everett’s Commercial Transport. She also attended college at Lane Community College, which awoke a life long interest in Science, Philosophy and Art. In 1969 she joined the Lane County Court System as a clerk, and worked in many areas. She retired from the court system in 1991 and remained in the Eugene area. She has been an active volunteer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church since 1985. Sandra also enjoyed crossword puzzles, mysteries and music.Sandra is survived by her daughter, Lisa Miller of Whittier, CA, and Step-Sister, Barbara Keepers of Lincoln City, OR.A Graveside service will take place on February 3, 2015, 3 p.m., at Mt.
