Obituary of Richard Clark

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 7th at 1:00pm for Richard S. Clark who died Thursday, January 22. He was 90 years old.Mr. Clark was born on April 3, 1924 in St. Johns, Michigan to Charles and Helen (Heidemann) Clark. He trained as a Navy fighter pilot during WWII and attended the University of Michigan prior to and after the war.In 1949 he married Bernadine Ann Fanning of Detroit, Michigan. They moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1951 where Clark began his career in the forest products industry.He was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, a past president of the Willamette Valley Hoo Hoo Club and a member of the Springfield Lions Club. He was a volunteer at Sacred Heart Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, the Natural History Museum and the Oregon Air and Space Museum. He loved music and was a member of The Eugene Gleemen for over 20 years.Mr. Clark was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, sailing, golf, tennis and birding. Spending time at the family cabin on Crescent Creek in the Oregon Cascades was one of his favorite pastimes.Clark is survived by his wife, Bernie, of 66 years, sons Richard (Molly) of Medford, David (Jan), Kevin, Brian, and Peter of Eugene and daughter Teresa (David) of Newton, MA. His youngest daughter, Barbara Ann, preceded him in death. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, a brother Robert (Jo) of Sacramento, CA, and sisters Barbara (Calvin, deceased) of Fayette, Ohio, and Kathryn (Dean) of Tampa, Florida and several nieces and nephews.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary. Internment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eugene.
