Obituary of Thelma Sutton

Thelma Albina Sutton passed away on January 27, 2015. Thelma was born on June 14, 1918, to Ida and Edwin Nylund in Chicago, Illinois. Thelma was raised on a farm near Carthage, South Dakota. She married Lawrence Charles Sutton, also of Carthage, in Chicago, on July 2, 1941. For several years they ran a grocery store in the small town. In 1956 they moved their family of three boys to Lebanon, Oregon. Lawrence passed away in 1962. Thelma moved to Eugene in 1973. For the past nine years, she enjoyed her home and good friends at Churchill Estates.Thelma was a baker; pies, prize-winning breads and elaborately decorated wedding and special events cakes. Her grandchildren fondly remember her cookies, doughnuts and cinnamon rolls. She was also an expert knitter. Show her a sweater you wanted and without a pattern she could knit it. Playing all kinds of card games was a favorite way to spend time with family and friends.Her three younger siblings, Margaret, Martin and Signe, preceded her in death. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law; Larry And Merrily, Glen and Terri, Raelyn and Martina and by grandchildren and great grandchildren; Ariana Sutton-Grier and Nat and Alyssia Grier; Nathan, Bethany and Alexandra Sutton; Aaron and Christy Sutton; Kevin, Zuhey and Claudia Sutton; Jenny, Scott, Cole, Will and Reid Hawkins; Becky, Clarence, Quinn and Remi Emmons; Amy, John, Molly and Foster Lohman and Tim Heeter.A funeral service will be held on February 14th at 10:00 A.M. at Central Lutheran Church, 1857 Potter Street, Eugene, OR.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given for leukemia treatment for Thelma’s four year old great-grandson Foster Lohman.
