Obituary of Corinne Doane

Corinne A. Doane, 83 years old, died on Thursday, February 12, 2015, in her home town of Eugene, Oregon after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease. Corinne, known as Bobby to family and friends, was born in Eugene to William and Agatha Ziniker. The oldest of three children she was predeceased by her brother William Zinniker of Eugene and is survived by her sister Pauline Ziniker of Livingston, Montana. After graduating from Eugene High School, she attended the University of Oregon and soon met her husband-to-be, Kenneth Doane, while attending a youth convention in Portland. Their first date was to cheer on the Ducks at a University of Oregon football game, which was a passion they shared for more than 60 years. Married for 63 years, Corinne and Ken raised their four children, Tom, Karen, Jim and Linda in Eugene, Oregon. Corinne faithfully cared for her family through delicious cooking and baking from scratch, sewing and crafting, and raising a bountiful garden each year. Her home-canned foods and preserves have been family favorites over the decades. Corinne also enjoyed raising flowers, collecting antiques and traveling. She especially enjoyed her trips to Hong Kong, various sites in China, the Hawaiian Islands, Alaska and many towns and beaches along the Pacific coast. Corinne is survived by her husband, Kenneth Doane, and their four children and their spouses: Tom and Lisa Doane, Karen and Dave Zechnich, Jim and Laurie Doane and Linda and Dave Gaus. She was lovingly known as “Grandma Bobby” to eight grandchildren: Kelly (Doane) Hersh, Kevin Doane, Kimberly (Zechnich) Greenfield, Jeffrey Zechnich, Jordan Doane, Austin Doane, Steven Gaus and Hannah Gaus. She was a great-grandmother to Payton and Sam Hersh and Mackenzie Greenfield. Corinne is also survived by her sister-in-law JoAnn Zinniker, brother-in-law Brant Oswald, brother-in-law Belvin Doane and his wife Marcy Doane and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Memorial donations are welcome and can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5041. A special thank-you to Corinne’s sister-in-law, JoAnn Zinniker, for her friendship, care and guidance. Corinne lived for her family and will be deeply missed by all.
