Obituary of Mel Lindley
Melvin was born in Springfield, Oregon in 1931 to William Newton Lindley and Margaret Lindley. He is survived by his wife, Harryette, “H.J.,” and children, Lisa (David) of Portland, Sigmund (Suleka) of Sacramento, C A, and Nancy (Gerard) of Garden City, NY and four grandchildren.He grew up in Springfield, and while attending high school he was active in the Future Farmers of America serving as president his senior year. He received a scholarship from FFA to attend Oregon State University, graduating in 1958. He enlisted in the Air Force, and spent four years in Germany as an Airline Dispatcher and skiing instructor.Mel was a stockbroker for forty years and enjoyed watching the market and helping others in the community with their investments. He served on the National Security Exchange Commission. As a young man he was active in the 20/30 Active Club, Eugene Executives, Rotary, The Town Club, and the Country Club. He served on the Bach Board and the University of Oregon Art Museum Board.Mel loved his yard and gardening and spent hours enjoying the flowers and landscaping and sharing with visitors. He also loved watching his children and grandchildren grow and hearing all about their accomplishments. He would tell them “Your success is my happiness”.Mel enjoyed calling Eugene his home, always happy to return after his many travels.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Assistance League of Eugene, Volunteers in Medicine, Future Farmers of America, or to a charity of your choice.A private service will be held at Mt.
