Obituary of Kumar Demig Dass
Kumar Demig Dass, age 72, went home to be with his Christ Savior on August 18, 2012 at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, MD after battling cancer. He was born August 30, 1939 in Surat, India to the late Demig and Maniben Dass. He was one of six children.
On May 18, 1966, Kumar married Snehalata Nirmal, from Aurangabad, India and recently celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage. They were more than just husband and wife, they were best friends and soul mates.
In 1972, Kumar was sponsored to come to the United States to work for Remington Rand, as a Typewriter Engineer/Manager and later in the coming years ran his own business of typewriter sales and services from which he retired.
In 1975, Kumar and his family joined the New Hampshire Avenue Gospel Chapel in Silver Spring, MD and remained a life long church member.
He took pride in being around his children, Alpana, Preeya and Mark, and his nine grandchildren; Nicolette, Kareena, Alana, Makayla, Preston, Azhara, Zayden, Brayden and Parker. He was an amazing husband, father and "papa". His family will forever miss his nurturing, caring personality. He was a selfless man who always put his family first.
He enjoyed life to the fullest. He is well remembered for his witty quotes and the wisdom that he passed onto to his loved ones. Kumar had a way of touching the lives of everyone that knew him. His outlook on life was "don't worry be happy" and, "leave all your worries with Christ".
He is survived by a wife, Snehalata Dass, Silver Spring, MD; a son, Mark Kumar Dass, Burtonsville, MD; two daughters, Alpana Kumar Jenne, Fulton, MD and Preeya Kumar Lowe, Columbia, MD; Two brothers, Simon Gima, Bowie, MD and Victor Gima, Hyattsville, MD; Five granddaughters, four grandsons, several nieces, nephews and friends.
His remains will rest at Union Cemetery, Burtonsville, MD. On Saturday, August 25, 2012, there will be a viewing for friends and family at New Hampshire Ave. Gospel Chapel from 9:30AM - 10:00AM followed by a memorial service. Interment will be immediately therafter. A Luncheon in honor of Kumar Dass will be held at the Chapel at 1:00PM.
