Obituary of Robert Read

Robert Doane Read passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. He died of natural causes. He was born Feb. 11, 1928 to Alice Little Read and Doane Read in Seattle, WA. He married Virginia Whitman August 14, 1948. Virginia preceded him in death in 2007.Bob served in the Navy during WW II and was stationed in the South Pacific. After the war he returned to Eugene and went to work for EWEB as a draftsman and surveyor, working on location on projects such as the Carmen Smith Dam. He retired from EWEB after a 42 year career with them.Bob loved the Ducks, fishing and golf. He coached little league sports while his children were young and was always an avid sports fan. His fun loving and sometimes baudy humor always made people smile. But nothing delighted him more than his grandchildren and great grandchildren!He is survived by his son Tom Read (Nancy) and daughter Jill Kessler, both of Eugene; his grandchildren Cam Read, Wendy Read Codding, Kaitlin Newman and Molly Newman; and five great grandchildren. A second son,Tim Read, pre deceased him.A gathering of family and friends is planned for Monday, March 30th at Camelot Village Recreation Hall where Bob and Virginia lived and spent many happy years. The gathering will be held from from 2-4 p.m. and Bob's many friends are invited.
