I am deeply saddened by the news of Norm's passing. He will always be remembered as a good friend and teammate 25 years after meeting. I'm sorry I didn't organize the reunion this past summer. The many photos and memories will be even more dear to me. My sincere condolences to Emily and all of Norm's family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Norm was always one of the nicest and kindest guys in the Norton Estates/Arthur Ford neighbourhood growing up. He always made time to chat and to get caught up when he ran in to you on the street or when at Blacks. Keep your friends and family close - and cherish the memories made. He will live on forever in your hearts.

I'm still in shock about Norm's passing. I've known Norm for almost 35 years. We started playing volleyball on the Kineldiego club team (now called Forest City) back in High School and we continued to play together until the last few years. Whether it was coed, beach, or playing in the World Masters in Edmonton in 2005, Norm brought passion and heart to every game he ever played. He was a great and caring friend. My heart goes out to Em, to Donna and to his entire family. We've lost a great man, a loyal friend and a caring father. He will be missed by all.

Norm is a guy that will forever bring a smile to the faces and hearts of all those who had the pleasure of knowing him! I can recall first meeting 'Normie', while making deliveries to Black's - during the many years that followed, we had the opportunity of sharing stories about life and family. Norm will be sadly missed but never forgotten .....

Norm was truly one of my best friends. I somehow had the good fortune to play volleyball with him for several years and came to know him well along with Scott, Tracy, Deb, Kim, Brad and others. Watching Norm within a few feet of a volleyball court was to watch passion, skill, technical brilliance and true grit. Beyond a dry sense of humour one would find the most kind, sensitive and caring man who would do anything for anyone. Our small team became a tight knit group whose friendship stood the test of time. When he became a father he realized joy, awe and unconditional love and lived his life to ensure Emily knew and experienced that love. In later years our paths crossed occasionally and always left me with a sense of comfort that I always had a friend who card and would be there for me. Norm, to lose you so early is a shock. Your life was meaningful and you will leave a legacy, not just a memory. I am blessed to have known you in this life and I will miss you. Peace.

My heart goes out to Norm's whole family, and especially to Emily whom I had the great pleasure to teach last year. Emily, I wish you all the strength you need to help you through this extremely difficult time in your life. You are a lovely young lady and you simply do not deserve to have to endure the heart ache that comes with the loss of your dad. I will be thinking about you and looking out for you at school. I am so sorry.

Norm Alpaugh.....who...oh, you mean "Stormin' Norman". That is the Norm I know and love. He was true to his name when it came to volleyball, he came into the gym like a a storm. His first big passion was for volleyball and my first contact with Norm was through volleyball. Meeting Norm on the volleyball court for the first time one would say he had a bit of arrogance about him (must be a Saunders Volleyball thing) some might even say he was a bit of a prick. But that is what you see across the net. I had the absolute pleasure to know "Stormin" from the same side of the net.....and yes, he actually could be a bit of a prick at times BUT we found out it was all just a show. Like Cathy MAC, I was fortunate to play with Norm and no matter where he went he had a ball with him and a hot game of pepper would ensue. Knowing "Stormin Norman", his passion for volleyball and playing volleyball with our small group during those years were some of the best years....My fondest memories lie far beyond the court. This is where "Stormin" was just Norman. With his youthful exhuberance, his querky sense of humor, a man that would be there for you...all you had to do was ask, he was someone who would put others first....go out of his way to make sure you were all right......just to visit, sit and chat if that is what was needed. I am still in disbelief that Norm is no longer on the court. My heart goes out to his family and know that ALL our prayers and thoughts are with you. Know that your son, father, brother, uncle, FRIEND will be missed greatly. "Stormin' Norman", you will always hold a special spot in my heart.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Norm's family. I am still in shock and I can't believe this has happened. Norm was my Front Store Manager at Shoppers. It took us a bit, but we became a very close "work" family and built a great team in the year he has been there. He was a great guy and a hard worker, always willing and wanting to help. One thing is for sure, going back to work will never be the same. You will be sadly missed....

Norm and I worked together for many years at Blacks. We were part of the" old gang". As a lab manager he was always there to lend assistance anywhere in London if you were having a problem . As a store manager he could be a fierce competitor with great ideas to further sales. He raised the bar in everything he did. I have fond memories of those days and will cherish them. He will be missed by all. Rick and Laura

I remember Norm from Black's when we worked together at the Argyle Mall store. He had a passion for life and work, and was not afraid to make it known. I also had the pleasure of working with Norm's sister Tara, and I hope that she and other family members can draw strength from the many condolences that I have read here.

I met Norm for the first time at Black's Photography. I was the new kid on the block. Norm took me under his wing and trained me in the lab. He was tough, rough around the edges, pulled no punches, spoke his mind. If you could take it, he'd give it to you, but, if he upset you, his compassionate side immediately came out. Norm always tried to the get the best out of everyone around him, whether it was work or sports. When you work with someone side by side in the lab (the "aquarium" as we used to call it), you talk all day, about everything and, we did. I got to know Norm quite well in those days, and we became the best of friends. We hung out, we played baseball, tennis. He even invited me to play on his volleyball team one night. I guess he was short players that night, and I had never played competitive volleyball before. After he saw me warm up, he benched me and never asked me again. He was Mr. Competitive. We even had long discussions about that Ford Mustang he loved so much. I also remember those times when he held my children, when they were born. He had a big smile on his face. That is when you say the real Norm Alpaugh; a man with a heart of gold, who cared deeply. To me, I will always remember Norm as a friend who was compassionate, protective, a man of integrity, opinionated to a fault and fiercely proud. Noble attributes that I am sure you have passed on to your daughter, and she will be the better for it. My heart is heavy at the shock of your passing. I miss the friendship that we have. Love you. Tony

My dad was an extremely lucky man. Looking at all these comments, it's not hard to figure that he was a loved man as well. My dad always liked to sorround himself with good people. He had no patience for incompetence and could spot a dud from a mile away. I've had the pleasure to meet many of my father's friends, and I must say, I wish I had met you all earlier on in life. Looking at all your names, I can hear my dad's voice in my head saying them with a smile, or in a happy manner. He was so fond of you all and grateful that you all touched his life as much as he touched yours. I know he's missing all of his family and friends, and I have no doubt in my mind that he would drop everything and come back to see us all again if he could. But that's just not how the world works. Like one of you said, he liked to bring out the best of people. I think now is a great oppertunity to show him how strong we are. And, hey, maybe he'll be looking down on us at one point and take credit for how strong and happy we'll all be.
