Obituary of George Robert Robertson
On Friday, July 12th, 2013 at Parkwood Hospital, George in his 93rd year passed peacefully following a short illness. George is survived by his dear wife Joan, his adored daughter Lynn (Mike) and much-loved grandsons Connor and Adam. Also missed by many nieces and nephews in Scotland, Norway and Australia. Born and raised alongside his brothers James and Ian and sister Lena, by loving parents Helena and James in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1955, George departed the old homeland and sailed to Canada where he soon landed a job with the US Corps of Engineers in Goose Bay, Labrador where he met and married Joan, his beloved wife of 56 years. Their adventures began and took them cross country to Yoho National Park in B.C. where George served as Park Engineer and their adored daughter Lynn was born. Their small family then moved half a world away to England where they stayed for a short time before returning to Canada to finally settle in London in 1965. George and Joan spent over 40 years of comfort and happiness in the Norton Estates area of London before finally settling at Inspirit Residence where they resided together for the past 3 years. George’s entire career was proudly spent as a civil engineer for the City of London. Post retirement, George enjoyed many trips here and abroad and loved nothing more than visits to his daughter’s home in Arizona to see his beloved grandsons. George enjoyed a good game of golf at Oxbow Glen in the summer and a challenging game of darts in Lambeth in the winter. His favorite sport of all though was tackling a good meal…seconds were always a given! George will always be remembered for his bright smile, his quick wit, his indomitable spirit and kind heart. He will be missed so very much…a true testament to a life well-lived. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
