Obituary of Walter Whitson

Walter L. Whitson age 71 of Springfield passed away May 23rd from complications of Leukemia. Walt was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on December 18, 1943 to Gene and Evie Whitson. Walt will be missed by his loving family and many great friends. His wife Judy, children Dena (Whitson) Landrum, Debi Whitson, Bryan and Chassie May, Darren and Karen May. 6 grandchildren, Kourtney, Hayden, Cassidy, Ocean, Skyler and Cade. Walt and his family moved from Oklahoma to Borger, Texas in 1945, then to Springfield on May 5, 1955. Walt graduated from Thurston High in 1962. He has wonderful memories of high school and loved getting together with his classmates. Walt served his country from 1964 to 1970 in the Oregon Army National Guard. Walt worked for Rosboro Plywood Mill as a supervisor for 30 years. He also worked for Sierra Pine Plyveer Plant where he retired. Walt enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, Texas Hold’em Poker, fishing, hunting, camping and watching sporting events, especially the DUCKS. A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 29th at 1:00 at Springfield Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Thursday the 28th from 2:00 to 5:00. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Cancer. Arrangements are entrusted to Springfield Memorial Funeral Home.
