Obituary of Margaret Burks
Margaret Burks of Eugene passed away early Wednesday on May 6, 2015. She followed the path of Jesus, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.Margaret was the fifth child of Chris and Margrethe Christensen, born in Eugene on July 24, 1924. Margaret grew up in Santa Clara, and attended University High, where she graduated in 1942. While growing up she met and fell in love with, the boy across the street. RD and Margaret became quite the couple. When he joined the Marines in 1942, she promised to write him every day and wait for his return. Upon his return from WW II, Margaret and RD were married on June 29, 1946 at Emmaus Lutheran Church.Margaret became a licensed beautician, and crafted her skills to become one of the top stylist in the Eugene area. She worked hard and long hours and with RD owned and operated successfully five beauty salons in Eugene. Over her professional career she received many accolades and awards for being a top stylist.Margaret’s biggest passion in life, however, was her family. She lived her entire life stressing the importance of family togetherness. She is survived by the love of her life, having been married 68 years together, RD Burks. Also, survivors include son Jens Burks (Becky) of Woodburn, daughter Kristen Burks of Springfield, and son Norman Burks (Peggy) of Vancouver. The most important treasure in her life, was her five granddaughters. She lived every day to brag about each of their accomplishments. Megan O’Quin (Jason) of DeKalb Ill., Kari Galloway of Springfield, Lisa Lau (Derrick) of Portland, Alexa Burks of Vancouver, and McKenna Burks of Vancouver, all cherished the time they had with their grandmother. Margaret in the past couple of years started enjoying the visits of her two great grandsons Andrew and Samuel Galloway.Margaret had so many special friends. She loved to travel, and especially enjoyed trips to their cabin at the beach, and camping at Diamond Lake. She was an artist, a great cook, and an accomplished organizer. She loved going to her church, where her personality and warmth was enjoyed by all.A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 on Saturday May 30th at Bethesda Lutheran Church 4445 Royal Ave, Eugene Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking to make a donation to the American Diabetes Association, or to Bethesda Lutheran Church.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
