Mr. Lukas was an exceptional teacher. I and many other students at Stratford Northwestern Secondary School had the privilege and honor of having him as our history teacher throughout the course of our years there. He was a contributing reason behind my decision to study history at university. There was never a moment where he failed to care, teach and inspire students within his classroom. His style of teaching is a rare breed and will be deeply missed. My deepest sympathy to his family, loved ones and relatives.

My deepest sympathy to all his family and his many friends. Still fondly remember watching him make his first Hole-In-One at the 8th hole at the Walkerton Golf and Curling Club. It was a cool fall day and we were the only ones on the course. I had to stand up on the bench to watch the ball drop into the cup. Wow. He couldn't believe it. Just using an old beat-up yellow Spalding ball too! You will be missed but not forgotten Bill.

My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to every member of Bill's family. Bill and I taught at Northwestern SS and we quickly became good friends. Often at lunch we would leave the school to share a meal and just talk. We both shared a passion for golf and spent many days enjoying each others company playing this wonderful game. After the game we would enjoy a bite to eat and have a beer while commiserating over all our bad shots and of course reliving the good ones! His passing leaves a hole in my heart that can't be repaired. My life was so much richer with him in it! Rest in peace dear friend.

I am so very sad to hear of Bill's passing. Colleagues like Bill are few and far between. Bill and I taught for many years at Northwestern, his passion for the subject and his pleasant and cooperative approach to teaching, made him a very valuable member of the Canada and World Studies Department. Students were indeed rewarded on a regular basis by his knowledge and scholarly approach to history. As a colleague, his interests in sports made our discussions very lively and enjoyable. He will be missed without question, his contributions made a difference in the lives of so many. My condolences to his family, we were indeed very fortunate to have worked with such an outstanding individual.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Lukas family. I only knew Mr. Lukas through his daughter Tobi's stories. Tobi has become a dear friend and has shared so many wonderful family stories with me that I feel I have know them personally. I wish you all peace through this very difficult time.

Lucille, Troy, Toby-Lynn, Our heart aches for you during this incredibly difficult time. I have known the Lukas family for close to 39 years and Bill was not only an amazing man, but one of the most influencial people in my life and in my parents' lives. Bill and Lucille were an incredible caring couple to my immigrant parents during their early years in Canada. They were genuine and supportive. They opened their home to my family and made me and my siblings feel loved and safe, which is rare to find. We celebrated birthday's together, special occasions, and were always available when we needed anything, whether it was friendship, support, or advice. This friendship continued even after they moved away from the neighbourhood. Bill tutored me in highschool math and gave me the opportunity to understand how to be responsible during my youth and helped me grow to be the adult I am today, from the trust to babysit Troy & Toby-Lynn to the friendship we share today. True friendships like this are so rare and I always felt an amazing bond with the Lukas family. I/we will miss Bill so much and feel blessed for the life shared with him and that he was able to spend time with our family in Edmonton with Lucille and Toby-Lynn. The memory of his last visit to Edmonton and the round of golf with Wayne willl stay with us forever. We are here for you in anyway we can and love you dearly. Paola, Wayne, Kyra, Tyson & Elyse

While I never had the privilege of meeting William, I'm friends with his son Troy. I can tell he was very loved by everyone. I do feel the loss of a great human being through the sadness I see in Troy. I wish to pay my respects and condolences to Troy and his whole family, my thoughts are with all of you today.

Bill will be missed as he was a true gentleman and a great colleague. My mind flashed back to our early days with the Northwestern teacher's hockey team and his nick name “Too Tall”. Constantly a great guy.

It is so appropriate to use the word "gentleman" in referring to Bill. I had the privilege of working with him in the Canadian and World Studies department at Northwestern where he also received the nickname, "Cool Hand Bill" for his quiet, thoughtful manner in and outside of the classroom. He left a great legacy at the school and will be missed.
