Obituary of Dorothy Phillips

Dorothy Phillips Passed away on April 6th 2015 at the age of 94. Born August 24th, 1920 to Thorpe and Mabel Babock in Seattle, Washington, Dorothy spent her childhood in Hoquiem, Washington as well as Pasadena, California. She went to Mills College in Oakland, California and graduated in 1942. She married her long time sweetheart John Morrison Phillips on August 24th 1943 and they moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1949.Dorothy was an author who wrote and published children’s stories in various children’s magazines, including the popular Highlights magazine. She raised five children of her own and enjoyed gardening and wildflowers, making sure the birds and squirrels were always well fed, painting, journaling, reading, and traveling. During their retirement years, John and Dorothy enjoyed going to garage and estate sales to collect things for resale at Piccadilly Flea Market.Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by all. She is survived by four of her five children: Mike Phillips, Alan Phillips, Kathy Phillips, and Claire Warntjes. She had 10 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.Dorothy was preceded in death by her son John B. Phillips, her grandson Eric Rynearson, and earlier this year by her husband, John M. Phillips. There will be a private family service for John and Dorothy at the Eagle Point National VA cemetery later this year.
