Obituary of Lois Callaway-Nielsen

Lois J. Cunningham Callaway Nielsen Lois J. Callaway Nielsen passed away peacefully as she completed her life’s journey on Aug. 29th, 2015 in Tigard, Oregon. She was born on December 16th, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa to Gladys and Howard Cunningham. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Robert Callaway, and (sister-in-law) Barb Cunningham. She is survived by her children Jeanne Callaway, Kathi (Steve) Tanner, J.A. ‘Bo’ (Lisa) Callaway, her brother Jim Cunningham, her husband Victor D. Nielsen, and his children Paul, Karen, and Erik Nielsen. Lois was a loving and devoted grandmother to Michele (Lance) Gibson, Joe (Tyra) Tanner, Missy (Kip) Lambert, Molly (Jeb) Ingram, Marcie Tanner, Dash (Bridgette) Lavine, Jesse (Jolene) Lavine, Teaghan Callaway, Brighton Callaway and 14 great-grandchildren. Her family moved from Iowa to Fremont, NE when she was 12 years old. She graduated from Fremont High School and later from Wayne University, NE, where she met and married Jim Callaway and were married for 45 years. Lois and Jim moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1959. She received her Master’s Degree in Library Science at the U of O. She was the librarian at Laurel Elementary School for 26 years in Junction City, Oregon. Lois and Jim traveled extensively all over the world; Hawaii was their favorite destination. Lois enjoyed the great honor of receiving the ‘Volunteer Woman of the Year’ Award in 1993 for her extensive work and was inducted into the prestigious ‘Who’s Who of American Women’ that same year. Lois volunteered at the Junction City Scandinavian Festival as a ‘Story Teller’ for over 27 years. Thousands enjoyed her storytelling talent, especially her grandchildren. She and Victor married in the year 2000 and enjoyed traveling to many countries around the world, including Europe and his native land of Denmark. Funeral Service will be on Sunday September 6th, 2015. A viewing will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m., held at Musgrove Family Mortuary, 225 S. Danebo Ave., Eugene, OR.
