Obituary of William Clyde Clark
Clyde was born on July 8, 1928, in Lacomb, Oregon. He passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015, after losing his battle with cancer.Clyde was the second oldest of seven children. He left home at a very young age and enlisted in the Navy just prior to his 17th birthday. His service time included a stint in the Pacific at the end of WWII.Clyde married Leola Gene Taylor on April 21, 1950. They were married for 51 years until Genie’s death in June 2001. They had two children: William R. (Bill) Clark and Terri Jean (Clark) Clements. Surviving Clyde are his two children, their spouses, Jody Clark and Mark Clements, and five grandchildren (Tiffany Clark, Amanda Clark, Monica Clements, Natalie Clements and Olivia Clements).Clyde lived in the same house in Veneta for 61 years until he moved into an assisted living facility in Eugene. He was a member of the Olivet Baptist Church and was very active in the local community. He was Man of the Year for the Veneta Kiwanis, a group that he was actively involved with.He spent his entire working career working as a logger. He started out as a “high climber,” topping trees and setting rigging, and retired as a logging foreman for International Paper Company. In his earlier years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved camping and traveling with friends after his retirement. He was always on the go and was a continuous tinkerer. His pride and joy included his flowers and his garden. He meticulously took care of both until he was not able to do so any longer. He was an exceptionally generous person with an incredible work ethic. He loved giving away his flowers and garden produce.Clyde was a great storyteller and enjoyed having coffee with friends at a coffee shop.Clyde became a Christian late in life but had a profound understanding that this Jesus fellow was real and held the key to his future. It was apparent from his last few days that he was getting glimpses of where he was going, and he was eager to get there. He did not have time for a theoretical god and he knew the real thing when he met Him. His profession was rock solid. We will miss him but will see him again later.A celebration of Clyde’s life will be held at Olivet Baptist Church, Veneta, Oregon, on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 2:00 PM with a potluck reception to follow.Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to: American Cancer Society, 2350 Oakmont Way Ste 200, Eugene OR 97401 Phone(541) 484-2211 or Serenity Lane, 616 E 16th Ave, Eugene, OR 97401 (541) 687-1110.
