Gosta (Gus) Sivar Eriksson was born September 19th, 1942 on a little farm in southern Sweden. Gus and his family immigrated to Canada in 1973. Gus called Dawson Creek his home until he passed away in the early morning of June 5th, 2013. He is survived by his wife Berit, sons, Conny (Linda), Jorgen (Annette), and daughter Ann Louise, along with many grandchildren who brought many smiles to grandpa’s face every day. He is also survived by many brothers, sisters, and family from Sweden to Canada. Gus will always be remembered as an avid outdoorsmen, always out hunting and fishing, creating unforgettable memories with his family and friends.
Gus will be greatly missed.
The following is part of the Eulogy read at Gus’ Funeral.
You can…
Once you met my father you were guaranteed to never forget him. His unique accent along with his insane humour left an unforgettable impression on all. He has taught me to always dream big or don’t dream at all.
If someone says you can’t do something, then never listen to that person again.
He was told you can’t go buy a grain farm in Spirit River and build a 3000 square foot log house by yourself but he did.
You can’t buy dynamite and blow up a mountain looking for gold but he did.
You can’t dig a 3 acre lake and expect it to fill with water, but he did with the help of leftover dynamite.
You can’t buy a plane and expect your son’s with only a grade 6 education to get a pilots’ license, but now both of my brothers can soar the sky.
Forestry came out on my first day of work running forwarder and they said she can’t do this job. My father told them, but she can do it – so I did.
He far exceeded more than he could ever have dreamed of moving to Canada.
At the worst of times, he never gave up and his power of positive thinking gave him the beautiful life he gladly worked so hard for.
I am so proud to say I am his daughter.
Ann
