Obituary of Mary Koensgen
KOENSGEN: Mary Koensgen (Kasik) was born in Hungary on December 21, 1919. She immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1926 and moved to Plumas MB, where she spent most of her "growing up years." She spent the war years in Fort Erie, Ontario. Following the war, she moved to Winnipeg, where she married Felix Koensgen on May 10, 1947. They were blessed with 3 children, Stuart, Neill and Shelley. The family moved to Boissevain in 1960 where Felix taught school. In 1965, the family moved to Brandon where Mary resided until her passing in 2013. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1965. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her brother, John and her husband, Felix in 1999. Mary loved to garden and was blessed with a green thumb - everything she planted thrived and people came to view her beautiful clematis. She loved to do crafts and there was not much she could not make. Mary also loved animals, and the house always had a critter or two living there. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by many family members: Stuart (Susan) and children Jonathon (Christie), Jeremy, Joseph and Jay; Neill (Brenda) and children Jackie (Joel), Jeffrey (Kerri) and great grandchildren Zane and Nova, step granddaughter Tracey (Lorne); Shelley (Galen) and children Ryan (Leanne), Lyndsey (Aaron) and great grandchildren Brooklynn and Liam. Pallbearers were the family. A family service to celebrate Mary's life was held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Edmund Mielke officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon cemetery. Friends and family who wish to make a donation in Mary's memory may do so to the Brandon Humane Society or to Grace Lutheran Church.
