Obituary of Murray McNiven
McNIVEN: Glen Murray McNiven (May 4, 1952 – May 23, 2013)
Murray was born in Hamiota, Manitoba and was the third eldest son of Marion and Lorne McNiven. He spent his adventurous childhood years amongst his 10 other siblings in Hamiota, before moving to Alberta where he worked as a carpenter.
Murray loved the outdoors, and was often off hiking through the woods. He was a big burly man but he had a lot of patience. Murray loved family gatherings; it wasn't unusual to see him hand in hand with one of his nieces and nephews, and when chores had to get done Murray always had a little extra help.
In the late 90's, after a construction accident, Murray returned to Manitoba. He was soon able to complete his Business Administration and worked part time for H&R Block in his spare time.
Being back in his home province of Manitoba, Murray was intent on rekindling his old friendships, and also made many new ones over the past 15 years.
After a short battle with cancer, Murray passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, May 23, 2013. He will be fondly remembered by all his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Bethel Christian Assembly, 440 Richmond Avenue, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Len Smith officiating. A private family interment will take place at the Hamiota Cemetery following the funeral service. Donations in memory of Murray may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Brandon RHA Cancer Services," 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
