Obituary of Matthew Dmetro Hrankowski

HRANKOWSKI: Matthew Dmetro Hrankowski of Brandon, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the age of 89 years. Matthew was born on October 26, 1923 in Rossburn, MB. He took his schooling at the Hranko School in Rossburn. Matthew farmed in Rossburn until he sold the farm and moved to Brandon. He worked as a welder in Brandon and also in lumber camps in Ontario, and as a supervisor and carpenter at Base Maintenance at Shilo Base, where he retired from in 1988. Matthew enjoyed numerous projects around the home and cabin, as well as gardening and having coffee with other seniors at various restaurants. He is survived by his wife, Anne (née Smith) of Brandon, MB; daughters Linda (Ken) Epp of Minnedosa, MB; Debbie (Ken) Stevenson of Brandon, MB; grandchildren Thomas Norquay of Winnipeg, MB, Stacy (Josh) Tondevold of Cardston, AB, David, Lauren and Lindsay Stevenson all of Brandon, MB; sisters Steffanie Henrickson of Oakville, ON and Adeline Russell of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by his parents, Kornel and Mary (née Berehulka) Hrankowski, brothers Adolphe, Lawrence (Lorne) Hrankowski, sisters Mildred Hrankowski and Lucy Gallarneau. Funeral service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, on March 1, 2013 with Fr. Jorge Mante officiating. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the doctors, nurses, sitters and aides on ward 400 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, also to Dr. Groves, Fr. Jorge Mante and to the staff and caterers at Brockie Donovan. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Matthew may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 4B-457-9th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4A9 or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7.
