Obituary of Ellen Louise "Mac" Rutherford

Ellen "Mac" Rutherford of Brandon, beloved wife of the late Walter "Doc" Rutherford, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Ellen was born on July 9, 1922 in Souris and attended school in Carroll and Brandon. As well as teaching in Oak River, Holland and rural Brandon schools, Hunter and Poplar Hill, she worked 22 years in the farm office of M.J. Gowryluk & Sons at Holland. After moving to Brandon in 1989, she volunteered at the hospital, Art Centre and Lions Manor. She was a United Church member, a Rebekah, a lifetime member of the Tiger Hills Arts Association and a member of Central Happy Haven Bell Ringers. Ellen is survived by sons Neal (Tammy) and Glenn (Diane), grandchildren Megan and Riley, numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Betty McFarland and Irene Dunn. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Elizabeth McFarland, husband Walter "Doc" Rutherford in 1984, brothers Robert and Willard, niece Nancy Belcher and nephew Walter Matthews, sisters-in-law Margaret Jeffrey, Edna Matthews and Thelma Wooley. A Celebration of Ellen's life will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Sakasov of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will take place at Brookdale Cemetery, Holland, MB at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "General Fund", 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
