Obituary of E. John "Jack" Kyle

KYLE: Jack (Edwin John) Kyle of Brandon, Manitoba was born on September 1, 1920 on the Kyle Homestead northeast of Boissevain, the younger son of Joseph (Joe) and Annie (McCormick) Kyle. He passed away peacefully on May 10, 2010 at Hillcrest Place in Brandon at the age of 89 years. Jack received his education at Brownlea, and Boissevain schools, along with his older brother Carman. In 1942 Jack enlisted in the R.C.A.F. as a wireless operator and in the spring of 1943 he was posted overseas for 3 ½ years. Jack returned from the war to marry his high school sweetheart, Betty (Sarah Elizabeth Holditch) on July 20, 1946. Jack and Betty farmed in the Brownlea district for 38 years. They were blessed with a family of two boys, Keith John and Glen Joseph, at whose ball and hockey games Jack was an exuberant fan. Jack served on the Brownlea School Board, the Brownlea and Boissevain United Church Boards, the Minto Pool Elevator Board, the Turtle Mountain Ag. Society and was a Calf Club 4-H leader. He served 24 years on the Boissevain Consumer's Cooperative Board, several times as president. Jack and Betty both enjoyed square dancing, meeting many wonderful people. Jack loved a good game of crib, crokinole, bridge or 500 and consistently beat anyone who was up for a challenge. He also enjoyed curling. "Grandpa" loved time spent with his four grandchildren, and he delighted in watching and teasing his five great-grandchildren. Left to mourn his passing are Betty, his beloved wife of 63 years; sons Keith and Glen and daughter-in-law Janice; his grandchildren Larissa (Neil) MacDonald, Brent Kyle, Brandi (David) Jackman and Jerron Kyle; his great grandchildren Benson, Janessa, Elliot, Wesley and Collin MacDonald; dear cousin and friend Annie Peacock and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families, as well as his friends in Boissevain and at Village Green and fellow square dancers. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Annie Kyle and his brother Carman. Jack will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was highly respected man who was willing to help anyone, had a great sense of humour and enjoyed his family, farming and friends. A private family funeral service was held in the Chapel at Central United Church on Friday, May 14, 2010. Interment followed in the Garden section of the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
