Obituary of Moriyasu Higa
Moriyasu Higa passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, September 10th at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in his 98th year. He will be sadly missed by his children; Maureen (Dave Jenkins) and David (Carol Smith) and his grandchildren; Jamison, Holly and Jeremy Higa and Evan Jenkins. Mori was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ryuko (2017), daughter Laura (1960) and granddaughter Maggie Jenkins (2014). He was also predeceased by his sisters Lillian, Rose and Marion, and is survived by sister-in-law Sueko Kitagawa and several nieces and nephews. He was most proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. Mori was a survivor of the internment camps in WWII, spending time as a teenager in the Sicamous-Revelstoke road camp in British Columbia. He moved to Ontario post-war where he met Ryuko and they built their life and family. During the recent COVID restrictions at his residence, the experiences of his youth came to light as he told us “everyone must do their part to keep everybody safe.” As per Mori’s wishes, cremation has taken place and we will unite Mom and Dad at a private family interment in the near future.
