My deepest sympathy to Simon, Murray and Philipp and their families. Bob was a wonderful person and a compassionate and exremely competant physician. Bob was the rock for so many people both professionally and personally. When Bob listened he listened carefully and completely. He was very proud of his family and delighted in his grandchild. It is hard to believe this smart and humorous man will no longer be there to share with.

I am so very sorry to hear of Robert's passing......I knew him for many years as a doctor on the units where we worked....including Queen Street back in the '70's, as a fellow dog lover....he had Maggie May, one of my Shelties for many years, and as a friend......we had lots of laughs over the years, he always listened when you had a concern or observation.......Margaret, his wife truly suited him and I like to think they are together again........it was very sad to hear of his passing and I know he will be in my thoughts for many days to come and also many of the old staff at Trillium where he worked for so many years..........Martha Jack

My wife, my children and I would like to convey to the family of Dr. Hicks our deepest feelings of sorrow. Your father was an impressively caring physician to his patients and those of other doctors and an excellent educator of the young and not so young physicians in Edinburgh, Calgary and Toronto. A warm and loving man to Margaret and a caring and proud father to his three sons. Murray, Philip and Simon you have lost your dad and the community has suffered the loss of a superb man. On a personal note, Bob was a very good friend and colleague for more than 40 years, and the person we owe a great debt to for bringing Anna and me to Toronto.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Hicks' passing and I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the Hicks family. I had the privilege of being his patient for 22 years . He was a remarkable doctor, dedicated and attentive, compassionate and supportive, who was truly interested in the well-being of his patients. He was also a kind, thoughtful, generous person with a great sense of humour, a true gentleman. He has touched so many lives and left a living legacy with his years of teaching and mentoring young doctors. And he gave to his fellow man to the very end. As someone who personally benefited from his wise counsel and guidance I will remember him always with respect and immense gratitude and I will miss him dearly.

Let me begin by saying that the stars are shining just a little less brighter in the night sky. Over the past decade my friendship with Robert has been a backbone to my life. He was my mentor, my friend and my confidant. He taught me so much but most importantedly he did that by his own actions. Dr. Hicks worked in the business of the human condition and I can say, without hesitation, that he was simply was the best physicians I have ever had the good fortune to know personally and professionally. His tenure on the Board of Directors at FAME and then later as our Ombudsman was absolutely invaluable. Dr. Hicks was a key leader in helping me to rebuild the agency into the strong, viable and effective organization it is today. He was wise. He was kind. He was honest. Robert was loved by many and gave that right back. I will miss his hand written notes and his perfectly pressed shirts. I will miss his friendship and his laughter. Divas will just not be the same without his smiling face. Enjoy heaven Robert because you deserve to be there. Have a double Single Malt Scotch for me. With much love and respect, Christine

I was deeply saddened to learn that Dr. Hicks' family and friends, his community, his colleagues, and all his friends and associates at FAME have suffered the loss of this remarkable human being. Dr. Hicks was of tremendous support to me and my children in the mid-1990s in the midst of a devastating period of transition. His wisdom and faith in me helped me to find courage and endurance in the face of great sorrow and adversity. He steadied us, guided us, and played an indispensable role in our recovery. Years later, I was delighted to encounter Dr. Hicks at an annual general meeting of FAME, an organization that has come to mean a great deal to me . I always enjoyed my chats with Dr. Hicks at the FAME AGMs and at the Divas concerts. He was an extraordinary individual, a devoted husband and father, and a gifted physician. I am so grateful to have known him and to have benefited from his unsurpassed compassion, gentleness, delightful sense of humour, and insight. I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to Dr. Hicks' family and close friends at this difficult time.
