Obituary of Jean M. Dunn
On Thursday, June 16th, 2011, just one day prior to her 87th birthday, Jean departed this life as graciously as she lived within it. For more than sixty-two years, she was the cherished wife of Wes. Jean was a loving and proud mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother to Steven, his wife, Johanne Saucier, and their children, Geneviève and Jean-Michel; Brian and his wife, Kathy and their children, Sarah and Michael: Bruce and his partner, Marion Holgate. Jean was the daughter of the late Ida and George Nicholls.
Born in Toronto in June 1924, Jean attended Runnymede Collegiate Institute and was graduated from Victoria College within the University of Toronto in 1945. Prior to and following marriage, until her first son was born, she was a Service Representative with Bell Canada. In 1965, the family moved from Toronto to London where she became a full home partner in the founding of the then Faculty of Dentistry of The University of Western Ontario. For many years, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Women’s Christian Association. One of the committees on which she served was charged with the planning for the building of Parkwood Hospital on its current site and for the move from the Grand Avenue location.
For the past almost two decades, Jean has been assailed by an array of health problems which progressively limited her activities. She had many hospital admissions in addition to periodic home care. Thanks and appreciation are extended to the many health care workers at home through the C.C.A.C and the V.O.N., with special thanks to Joan Gerber, and at University, Victoria, and Parkwood Hospitals and latterly at Kensington Village Nursing Home. Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to her knowledgeable, competent, and caring physician, Dr. Jo-Anne Hammond, for her many years of exemplary care.
Jean was a gentle, kind, gracious, and wonderful lady who will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
