Obituary of Thomas Dennis Mulkey
Thomas Dennis Mulkey was born September 8, 1944 in the Cape May, NJ Naval Infirmary during a hurricane. After leaving Cape May, NJ, he lived on 10th St. NE, until his parents bought a home in the Oakview community in Silver Spring in 1950 where he lived there until he married Michelle in 1965. They then lived in Takoma Park for over forty years.
He attended Catholic schools, graduating in the first four-year class of Good Counsel High School in 1962. He began working at Western Electric in 1965 and stayed within the Bell System for 30 years until his retirement. He was a proud Union man, belonging to the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 2390 until his death. He was a member of the Pioneers of America and Lucent Retirees Organization.
He doted on his daughter, Marlana Michelle, born in 1969 - taking her to dance lessons, Girl Scout camping trips, shopping, showing her plumbing and wiring, and how to work under the hood of a car. Thomas Edward born in 1970 only lived a short while, but was a special blessing for him - his little angel. He adored his granddaughters, Amber Michelle born in 1990 who had lived with him the last few years of his life and Autumn Danielle born in 2004 who he had practically raised her first few years of life. He was their special Grampy.
He was a voracious reader, often reading four books simultaneously, working in his computer, videotaping, collecting Star Trek memorabilia with his son-in-law, Russell, and amassing all things telecommunications and pet related. He enjoyed Afghan Hounds and cats, especially Sweetie.
Thomas Dennis was a loyal and kind friend to many and will be greatly missed by his wife Michelle, daughter Marlana, son-in-law Russell, granddaughters Amber and Autumn and his many friends and relatives.
