Obituary of Elizabeth duFour Bliss

Elizabeth duFour Bliss, 92, died peacefully on February 26, 2013 at Homewood Nursing Home in Williamsport, Maryland. She had resided at Homewood since May of 1997. A New York native, she graduated from Pleasantville High School in Pleasantville, New York, then received her B.A. from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in 1942. She moved to New York City to work and she married Welles Royce Bliss, an Episcopal minister in 1945. They lived in the communities of Totowa Boro, Nutley, and Belvidere, New Jersey; Saint James, Maryland; and Sarasota, Florida. They moved to the Hagerstown, Maryland area in 1991. Her husband died in 1996. Bette was very active in each community where she lived and was known for her wonderful personality and smile. She enjoyed various needlecrafts. While in New York City she and Welles sang with the Robert Shaw Chorale. Survivors include daughter Julia Bliss Barlup and husband Phillip Barlup of Smithsburg, Maryland, and their daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Doug Donegan of Arlington, Virginia, daughter Jane Bliss and her daughter, Emily of Haddon Heights, New Jersey. She is also survived by son Michael, his wife Beth and their son Julian of Brigantine, New Jersey and son Peter of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held in Sarasota, Florida.
